Learning outcomes
This course aims to prepare the students of the FVM to diagnose and solve husbandry and veterinary problems in poultry. Students gain basic information about breeding and diseases in chickens, turkeys, waterfowl, game birds, pigeons and quail. Teaching consists of theoretical lectures as well as practical lessons, where students gain skills to manipulate and treat avian patients as well as perform dissections.
1) theoretical knowledge The student is able to/knows/understands: - aetiology, diagnosis and treatment of selected diseases. 2) practical skills The student is able to: - safely manipulate avian patients and examine them clinically, - collect blood from avian patients, - perform various health tests on poultry, - dissect poultry. 3) competences The student is competent to: - gather complete medical history, - fixate avian patients safely, - perform a clinical examination of an avian patient, take biological samples and evaluate status presens, - interpret laboratory results, - perform tuberculation and quick slide agglutination tests, - slaughter/euthanize chickens, - dissect poultry and evaluate pathomorphological changes as well as take samples.
