Course content
Lectures: 1. Neuro-hormonal control of sexual activity and spermatogenesis. 2. Methods of andrological examination, evaluation of semen. 3. Dilution, preservation and storage of semen. 4. Methods of artificial insemination. Artificial insemination of farm animals. 5. Infertility of males - causes and symptoms. Infertility of farm animals - diagnosis and treatment. 6. Artificial insemination of horses. Infertility of stallions - diagnosis and treatment. 7. Artificial insemination of dogs. Infertility of dogs and toms - diagnosis and treatment. Practical courses: 1. Safety principles for manipulation with breeding males and for work in andrological laboratory. Sexual organs of farm animal's males - anatomy, physiology. Andrological examination, artificial protrusion of penis and sample collection for laboratory examination in bull. 2. Collection and examination of semen. 3. Dilution and preservation of semen in bull. Evaluation of insemination dose and artificial insemination in cow. 4. Collection and the examination of the semen in stallion, evaluation of insemination dose and artificial insemination in mare. 5. Collection and examination of semen in dog, evaluation of insemination dose and artificial insemination in bitch. 6. Collection and the examination of semen in boar, evaluation of insemination dose and artificial insemination in sow. 7. Credit test.

Learning outcomes
Lecture are focused on: Neurohormonal control of the sexual functions in male, sex reflexes, nervous types - calssification.Spermatogenesis. Methods of the collection of the semen.Qualities of semen. Sperm examination.Dilution, preservation and storage of semen. Methods of insemination. Factors influencing quality of the ejaculate during collection, handling and storage.Hereditary and congenital infertility.Aetiology of infertility in males Genital infections, veneral infections. Infertility ruminants and boars.Infertility stallions and dogs. Practical lessons ore focused on: Collection and macroscopic examination of semen in bull. Microscopic examination of semen in bull. Dilution and preservation of semen in bull. Methods of thaw of the frozen semen, practical performance of the arteficial insemination in cows (genital organs).Collection and evaluation of semen in boar, sperm morphology.Dilution and preservation of semen in boar. Insemination of sows.Collection and evaluation of semen in small ruminants.Collection and evaluation of semen in stallion.Collection and evaluation of semen in dog.Collection and evaluation of semen in fur animals.Colllection and evaluation of semen in poultry. Methods of the detection of trichomonasis and campylobacteriosis. Diagnosis and treatment of pathological conditions of the genital organs of males.
Theoretical knowledge The student can explain and describe the physiology and pathology of the male reproductive system, the production of insemination doses and the principles and use of artificial insemination. Practical skills The student can carry out a clinical examination of males, take samples for laboratory examination, collect ejaculate, perform appropriate laboratory examination. The student is able to carry out instrumental semen transfer or insemination doses in key species of domestic animals. Competence The student is able to make a final diagnosis after examining the male, evaluate the male's ability to act in reproduction, perform artificial insemination of domestic animals.
