Course content
|
Lectures: 1. Safety of work with animals, anamnesis, fixation. General clinical examination of ruminants. 2. Examination of the respirátory, circulatory and urinary tract. 3. Examination of the digestive tract and liver. 4. Examination of the mammary gland and milk. 5. Examination of the reproductive tract in ruminants and pigs 6. Clinical examination in pigs. Basic preventive-medical procedures in pigs. 7. Clinical examination in calves, young cattle and small ruminants. Practical exercices: 1. Safety of work with animals, fixation of individual animal groups. Anamnesis, examination of general health status. Evaluation of condition, trias, examination of lyph nodes. 2. Examination of the respirátory, circulatory and urinary tract (auscultation, percussion, palpation, catetherisation). 3. Examination of the oral cavity, abdominal cavity and liver. Examination of the stomach and abomasum. Sampling and examination of ruminal fluid. 4. Examination of the mammary gland. Collection and examination of milk samples (cow side tests, microbiological examination). 5. Gynecological examination of ruminants and pigs. Demonstration of common examinations. External examination - visual control. Internal examination - rectal palpation, vaginal examination, transrectal ultrasonography in cattle, transabdominal ultrasonography in pigs and small ruminants 6. Clinical examination in pigs. Veterinary medical procedures in pigs. Collection of biological tissues and fluids in pigs. 7. Clinical examination in calves, young cattle and small ruminants.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of the discipline is to teach graduates the clinical examination of ruminants as from the point of view of an individual pacient. Students can handle animal manipulation, fixation, examination of individual organ systems and developing a final diagnosis. This discipline is followed by other disciplines, in particular internal ruminant diseases, surgery, orthopedics, obstetrix, gynaecology, andrology and artificial insemination.
Theoretical knowledge The student can describe and explain the procedure of clinical examination of farm animals. Practical skills The student can obtain an anamnesis of an individual animal or a group of animals. The student knows how to handle animals safely, masters methods of fixation. The student can examine individual organ systems of farm animals. Competence The student can perform a complete clinical examination of farm animals.
