Course content
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the development, basic principles and applications of ethical approach in all areas of veterinary medicine, including scientific research. They will be acquainted with the basic ethical issues associated with the profession of veterinarian. Students will learn communication skills; they will be acquainted with the means and forms of communication (verbal vs. nonverbal), they will learn how to effectively use communication tools and how to act in relation to the client, colleagues and the public. Credit conditions: Elaboration of an essay on a given topic; completion of the e-learning course moodle Topics of lectures and seminars: Ethics in the veterinary profession, development, importance and its applications; Ethics in veterinary legislation, code of ethics; Welfare and animal rights; The human-animal aspect; Ethical dilemmas of a veterinarian; Forms of communication (verbal, nonverbal) and their use; Importance and aspects of communication with the client, colleagues, the public; Difficulty of the veterinary profession from the point of view of solving stressful situations; how to deal with loss of motivation and burnout syndrome.

Learning outcomes
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the development, basic principles and applications of ethical approach in all areas of veterinary medicine, including scientific research. They will be acquainted with the basic ethical issues associated with the profession of veterinarian. Students will learn communication skills; they will be acquainted with the means and forms of communication (verbal vs. nonverbal), they will learn how to effectively use communication tools and how to act in relation to the client, colleagues and the public.
Theoretical knowledge The student knows the ethical framework in which veterinarians should work, including important ethical theories that deal with decisions in professional ethics and ethics related to animal welfare. He knows the main ways of communication (verbal, nonverbal) and their importance in communicating with the client, colleagues and the public; can describe the importance of media and social networks in communication. Practical skills Can apply the principles of ethics in the main areas of veterinary medicine; masters general ethical recommendations and a code of ethics at national / international level; can communicate effectively with the client, colleagues and the public. Competence Understands the ethical and legal responsibilities of the veterinarian in relation to animals, clients, the public and the environment; understands the emotional context in which the veterinarian operates. He is able to demonstrate that he recognizes personal and professional limits and, if necessary, knows how to seek professional advice, help and support.
