Lectures: 1. Physiology of digestion, principles of proper nutrition of individual categories of horses, dietary importance of individual feeds intended for horse nutrition. 2. Differences in the nutrition of working and sport horses. Pathophysiology of digestion in horses due to improper nutrition, nutritional prevention of dietary disorders. 3. Principles of rabbit nutrition. Nutrition-related diseases and their prevention. Principles of rabbit nutrition. Dietary disorders and their nutritional prevention. 4. Principles of nutrition of herbivorous fur animals (nutria, chinchilla). Dietary importance of individual nutrients and feeds, dietary disorders and their nutritional prevention. 5. Principles of pig nutrition. Health disorders resulting from improper nutrition and their nutritional prevention. 6. Principles of gallinaceous poultry nutrition. Health disorders and their nutritional prevention. 7. Principles of waterfowl nutrition. Health disorders and their nutritional prevention. 8. Principles of nutrition of pet poultry, ostriches, pigeons, feathered game. 9. Physiology of freshwater fish digestion and differences in metabolism of freshwater and marine fish. Nutritional requirements of fish. Additives. Natural fish food. 10. Nutrition and feeding of larval and juvenile stages of fish. Breeding and feeding of salmonid fish. Nutrition of aquarium fish. 11. Principles of dog nutrition. Food intended for dogs, their composition and health safety. Overview of animal feeds usable in nutrition. 12. Principles of cat nutrition. Feeds intended for cats, their composition and health safety. Overview of animal feeds usable in nutrition. 13. Nutrition and feeding of carnivorous fur animals (zoo animals, ferrets) Practical lessons: 1. Principles of nutrition of individual categories of horses, feed base, feedstuffs suitable for horse feeding 2. Principles of nutrition of racehorses and working horses, differences in their nutrition, feeding technique 3. Principles of nutrition of rabbits and herbivorous fur animals, feed base, feeding technique, a compilation of feed rations 4. Principles of nutrition and feeding technique of small rodents and reptiles. 5. Principles of nutrition of individual categories of pigs, feed base, feeding technique. Feeding and watering technology. Formulation of feeding mixtures for individual pig categories. 6. School trip to university farm in Nové Dvory. 7. Principles of nutrition of individual species and categories of gallinaceous poultry. Feed base, feeding and watering technique. Formulation of feeding mixtures for individual poultry species. 8. Principles of nutrition of individual species and categories of waterfowl. Feed base, feeding and watering technique. Formulation of feeding mixtures for individual waterfowl species. 9. A school trip to a company producing feed for companion animals. 10. Feedstuffs used in pond and trout farming, their nutritive value, presence of antinutritional substances. Zooplankton and zoobenthos as natural components of the fish diet. Fly fishing (production of baits imitating natural fish food). 11. Principles of dog nutrition, nutrient requirements, selection and evaluation of feedstuffs, homemade and commercial diets. Formulation of diets. Production of commercial feeds 12. Principles of dog nutrition, nutrient needs, creation of feed rations. Principles of nutrition of individual categories of dogs, evaluation of nutrition in relation to health status and breeding and work use. 13. Principles of nutrition of cats and ferrets, nutrient requirements, selection and evaluation of individual feedstuffs, homemade and commercial diets. Nutrition of individual categories of cats and ferrets, the composition of diets, feeding technique. 14. Credit test and credit awarding.

Learning outcomes
|
The aim of this course Animal Nutrition II is to clarify the relations between animal nutrition, animal production and animal state of health. The teaching is focused on nutritional principles in various animal species and categories in relation to the controlled conversion process. The attention is paid to farm and pet animals. Credit is awarded for the completion of the course.
Theoretical knowledge The student can: - describe the physiology of digestion of livestock and selected pets, - describe the principles of animal nutrition of individual species and age categories of farm and selected pet animals, - assess the correctness of the nutritional and component composition of compound feeds and feed rations, - assess the composition of feed rations and compound feeds for individual species and categories of animals, - define dietary disorders from malnutrition and recommend their nutritional prevention. Practical skills The student can: - assess the suitability of individual feeds for the species and age category of the animal, - assess the composition of feed rations and compound feeds for individual species and categories of animals, - interpret the results of laboratory analyses of feed and draw up recommendations for the practice, - assess technologies for the production of compound feed for livestock and pet animals, - assess feeding techniques for livestock and pets. Competences The student is able to: - independently assess and evaluate the health disorders of the animal from improper nutrition, to propose a change in the feed ratio leading to the improvement of the animal?s health, - design the right feeding technique for livestock and selected pets, - optimize nutrition in relation to age, phase of the reproductive cycle, production goals and breeding conditions (microclimate, housing), - propose recommendations for breeders/owners to achieve optimal animal conditions, - work individually and in a team.

Assessment methods and criteria

Credit requirements: - participation in practical lessons, 1 absence per semester in in-person teaching is allowed, 100% participation in practical lessons in distance teaching; for any other absences the doctor's confirmation of illness is accepted only, any rescheduling is possible only by prior arrangement with teachers, or agreement between the student and the teacher - elaboration of a seminar paper on the missed topic - in case of implementation of practical training in the form of trips, 100% participation in trips is required, in case of absence only confirmation from the doctor about illness is accepted, possible rescheduling with another study group after prior agreement with teachers, or agreement between student and teacher - elaboration of seminar work on a missed topic - to develop and present a PowerPoint presentation on a professional topic assigned by the teacher at the beginning of the semester - during the semester, elaboration and submission of worksheets (continuous knowledge assessment) - shall be specified by the teacher at the beginning of the semester with the possibility of re-sits in case of failure; successfully prepared worksheets shall be submitted according to the deadline set by the teacher, but no later than the 13th week of the semester for the subsequent granting of credit in the 14th week of the semester (in case of distant education) - passing a credit test at the end of the semester - shall be specified by the teacher at the beginning of the semester Exam: - the credit is a pre-requisite for the exam - the exam from the course Animal Nutrition I and Animal Nutrition II - the test is available to students in Moodle - the student registers for the exam with a password provided by the course guarantor/examiner at the beginning of the exam period - the exam test is designed so that each student gets random questions from the exam task bank - in case of failure, the time delay between the first and second, or the second and third re-sit is 5 days - the result of the theoretical exam is evaluated with a final grade the final grade is known to the student immediately after the exam
