Course content
The course is tailored to the needs of students in veterinary medicine, veterinary hygiene, public health, and related fields. It focuses on the terminology and language skills relevant to these areas. Students practice reading, writing, listening, and speaking in professional and academic contexts, with an emphasis on specialized English used in their field of study. Cultural aspects of the Czech Republic and practical communication skills are also integrated into the program.

Objectives of the Course: To prepare international students linguistically for their study stay at VETUNI Brno under the ERASMUS program. To enhance students' understanding of the cultural aspects of the Czech Republic. To develop and strengthen students' communication skills in academic and professional contexts, with a focus on specialized English used in veterinary hygiene, public health, and other related areas of their studies at the university.
After completing the course, the student can: Communicate effectively in academic and professional contexts using specialized English in veterinary hygiene, public health, and related fields. Demonstrate intercultural awareness and understanding of Czech cultural norms and practices. Read, write, and present scientific and professional materials in English with confidence. Participate actively in discussions, seminars, and collaborative international projects. Apply language skills in practical situations, such as veterinary inspections, research, and professional communication.
Prerequisites
Students are expected to have knowledge of English at least at level B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), i.e., at a level corresponding to the successful completion of the secondary school leaving examination (maturita) in English. Written credit test

Conditions for Granting the Course Credit: Regular and active participation in seminars (maximum of 2 absences allowed). Comprehensive assessment of acquired language knowledge and skills at the end of the semester.
