Learning outcomes

Teaching activities in the summer semester of year 3 address parasitoses of main animal species and are divided according to the host organisms. The teaching builds on the knowledge obtained in the winter semester regarding the biology of parasites and includes information about the life cycles, morphology, means of identification, resulting clinical cases and correct interpretation of diagnostic tests, including the basics of antiparasitic treatment. Within the practical classes, the students will learn about the selection of the pertinent diagnostic methods, the preparation of clinical material, its examination and interpretation.
1) theoretical knowledge The student knows clinically important and zoonotic parasitoses, the biology of parasites, clinical manifestation of parasitoses and major diagnostic approaches as well as prophylactic measures and parasite control. 2) practical skills The student is able to select and apply appropriate diagnostic methods for given infections according to the protocol and is able to identify the most common endo- and ectoparasites in biological materials. 1) competences The student is competent to evaluate basic clinical signs of parasitoses, select the diagnostic method and independently perform the sample collection and interpret the results of performed tests and propose control and prophylactic measures
