Learning outcomes
The 9th semester (5th year) is devoted to the origin, course and extinction of mostly viral infectious diseases of animals. Emphasis is placed on students' knowledge of the pathogenicity and resistance of infectious agents, the pathogenesis of the disease, diagnosis and immunoprophylaxis. Students will improve their knowledge of epidemiological measures. The goal is to prepare students for the organization of prevention of infectious animal diseases and their control to protect the health of humans coming into contact with sick animals or their products.
1) theoretical knowledge The student is able to: - describe the aetiology of viral infections of animals, their geographical occurrence and the current disease situation in the Czech Republic and EU countries, - determine whether the disease is transmissible to more species of animals or humans, - describe the pathogenesis of the disease. 2) practical skills The student is able to: - recognize the typical clinical symptoms of the disease on the basis of knowledge from lectures and practical lessons, - specify the possibilities of appropriate sampling, therapy and prevention. 3) competences The student is able to: - use the knowledge of General Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases of Animals Part 1 and 2, - independently evaluate the severity of individual viral diseases and their danger to animals or humans, - orientate in differential diagnostics and evaluate the reliability of methods of laboratory diagnostics, the effectiveness of adopted veterinary measures (control programmes, contingency plans, etc.), or possible therapy and immunoprophylaxis.
