Learning outcomes
The tenth semester is dedicated to soft tissue surgery in small animals - abdominal surgery, gastrointestinal and urogenital surgery, portosystemic shunts and hernias in small animals, and thoracic surgery. The issue of diseases of the spine and peripheral nerves and ophthalmology of small animals is also discussed. In practical exercises, students improve in surgical interventions in the abdominal cavity, in thoracotomy, in interventions on the eyes of small animals, in the treatment of perineum and inguinal hernia, and in dental procedures.
Theoretical knowledge The student knows the principles of treatment of pathological conditions with surgical indication in the abdominal and thoracic cavity. The student masters the principles of surgical treatment of diseases of the spine and peripheral nerves. The student knows the eye diseases of small animals and their treatment methods. Practical skills The student can perform laparotomy (thoracotomy) and the most common surgical interventions in the abdominal (thoracic) cavity of small animals. The student can treat perineal and inguinal hernia. The student can perform basic ophthalmological surgical procedures. The student can perform basic dental procedures on small animals (periodontal treatment, uncomplicated tooth extractions). Competence The student is able to independently perform basic surgical procedures in the abdominal and thoracic cavity, diagnose diseases of the spine and peripheral nerves. The student is able to perform basic ophthalmological surgical procedures, diagnose and basic treatment of pathological conditions in the oral cavity.
